THE EARTH

- The Earth is our planet and, in the present, the only with life.

- The Earth is the third nearest planet from the Sun, after Mercury and Venus.

- It has one natural satellite, the Moon.

-
From the Earth to the Sun, there is a distance of 149.600.000 km approximately.

-
It has an equatorial radius of 6.378 km.

-
The Earth makes many movements, but the more important movements are two:
  • Rotation: the movement originated when the Earth rotates on itself, and that makes days and nights.
This is a photo of the movement of rotation.

  • Translation: That occurs when the Earth rotates into the Sun, and that makes the four seasons of the year: winter, spring, summer and autumn.

This is a photo of the movement of translation.

  • CURIOSITIES OF THE EARTH:
  • The average temperature of the Earth is 290 k (17ºC)
  • The Earth weights 6,000 million trillion tons. More than an elephant!
  • The Earth is 4.600.000 million years old.
